At least for Calendar, I think most people assume that the 'share this calendar with everyone in the domain' actually shares the calendar with everyone in the domain (which of course it doesn't. But this groups trick is really important and should be integrated into the sharing tab somehow...
If I add a new user to an existing Apps group, it doesn't appear as though the sharing permissions are carried over to the new user, which pretty much makes this feature useless since I *still* have to pull up the permissions for each document, un-share, and then re-share. What a pain! I'm disappointed that Google still hasn't gotten this right.
I'm really happy to see that Google has added functionality to Google Groups. GG has been neglected for a long time. How about some other features specifically for Groups like filtering, prepost editing and most important, SECTIONS in Groups like the Google Groups Help group.
There is a missing piece with this. When setting up a group in GApps, you can add any address, even one from another domain. But then when you share with that group, those users in the other domain get an incorrect URL link to the document, one that contains the group's domain. Copy, paste, change domain in the URL works, but it should be automatic.
I still find a disconnect between the Google Apps implementation of a "Group" and the Google Groups (groups.google.com) implementation of a "Group".
The Google Apps implementation feels more like a simple mailing list/e-mail alias whereas the Google Groups one is more of a full bulletin board/forum-style group.
It is the latter that I really need in GApps. When will we get that?
Also, can I suggest that you rename the current GApps Groups to something else. Currently it is very confusing because they both have the same name but not the same functionality.
I'm still looking for online forum/bulletin board-style groups just like Google Groups (groups.google.com). In that implementation a group member can choose to have individual e-mails sent to them or view them on the web. Google Apps Groups is still essentially an email alias/user grouping.
When will you guys come out with full bulletin board-style discussion groups within Google Apps?? That is the last major feature that is holding me back from moving my family domain to Google Apps.
P.S. While we're at it, the ability for individual family members to pay for their own Premier Account or to be able to mix between Premier and Standard Accounts in the same domain would be an awesome addition for family domains like mine. If you made some compelling features like Push E-mail to iPhone a standard feature of Premier, then I think that would push more users to pay for Premier.
The feature is nice, but could be much better if you add also invite a group to an event so that when confirming each member the invited list will autofill with the attendants or the refused people.
This would be great if it worked. I add the group email address under Share with Specific People, but the users in the group do not see the calendar. If I add individual email addresses in the same place, it works fine. Seems like a bug... and a big one since I don't want to have to add 100 email addresses for a large group.
IMHO it is a fatal flaw that Google Groups don't have calendars via Google Calendar. It doesn't make sense for me to share a calendar owned by me with the group. What happens if I leave the group? What happens when group leadership changes? The old leader continues to own the calendar? The new leader has to create a new calendar and everything on the old calendar is lost? Why not have a calendar owned by the group?
I'm with Reyes--Yahoo has a group calendar, and this is the only useful way to implement a calendar in a group setting. I don't want my personal calendar to become the group calendar--especially since it has other things on it.
I think this feature has been poorly managed and underdeveloped by the big G, especially as its trying to compete with MS Exchange. When I share a calendar with a group nothing happens - I can only share with an individual's e-mail address. Also what happens when somebody joins the group. There should be an extra step that would show the admin what will happen to the individual user once he joins a group - like is added to a calendar share.
Is there any way to copy a forum into a new group, essentially using the existing forum as a template? The original forum's topics only need to have the original postings.
Will this work with the blogger accounts also?
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!

ReplyDeleteDoes it mean I can now "invite" a group for a RSVP event in google calendar?

cool, this is very smooove !!
ReplyDeleteWorks a charm. I was hoping this would come around eventually.

ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteThis works so so. When i add a group to a calendar each and every one has to accept the invitation to add that calendar.
When a new member enters the group that person does not get the invitation to add the calendar.
It would be much better if the calendar was added without concent especially for buisnesses.
